Yahoo has long released a guide on how to speed up web processes, which can be visited here. In a follow-up to this information, Yahoo has just released a web-based application that will maximize web performances and speed by reducing the size of its images, and the application is called Smush It. This application is mainly aimed towards web developers or programmers who usually bemoan the slow speed of the websites they are developing. Smush It reduces the image size through various methods.

Firstly, it can convert a JPEG image file into a PNG one which is smaller in size, and it will also reduce the colour range used in PNG file, without compromising its visual appeal. It can also eradicate textual metadata, if present, from JPEG image file so that the resultant image is much smaller in size. To utilise this mini yet useful application, anyone can send the images to the website, Smush It, or visit the website and then upload it there, or they can even install a Firefox extension which will enable Firefox user to directly submit their websites with just one click. Although sometimes the size reduction is not very significant, it still helps the visitors of the website to experience more satisfaction from higher speed.
