According to a blog post by Canonical, the backer of Linux’ Ubuntu version, they are trying to rival Mac on desktop user-friendliness in 2 times. To achieve this end,  they are hiring a professional team focus on OpenGL, Gnome, KDE to give Ubuntu a major revolution so that the open-source software will be more user-friendly and appealing. Their main focus is on the user experience or usability, a phrase that is embodied by Apple’s Macintosh. This step is taken in view of plummeting popularity of Linux as desktop, as Windows Vista and Macintosh are upgrading their machines. They hope that this usability will catapault them into the top choice of desktop or at least at the same popularity level as enjoyed by Mac now. Much money and capital will be pumped into the project and this will indoubtedly heat up the competition in the desktop field, that is already intense due to Mac Leopard and Windows Vista advent.
